Portfield is a non maintained special school for up to 65 children and young people on the autism spectrum in Christchurch, Dorset. The school has an excellent staff team and first class facilities – it is described by Ofsted as being ‘good with outstanding features’.

The special education and local authority procurement environment in which the school operates is changing and, in response, we are seeking an entrepreneurial strategic leader to ensure that the current and future services offered fit best with that environment and that the school continues to flourish and grow.

The successful candidate will demonstrate how, through a combination of public service values and commercial disciplines, they have improved user outcomes, demonstrated service impact and added stakeholder value. Through the application of these principles, Portfield will be the first choice of those seeking such a service.

Whilst experience of special education, child care and/or autism is desirable, technical knowledge and skills in respect of teaching and child care will be provided by the head of education and head of residential services and these are not, therefore, essential.
