An Individualised Approach

An Individualised Approach

Our approach to education is individualised, proactive and personal. Children learn from highly trained and experienced teaching staff who create a personalised curriculum tailored to individual strengths and needs.

Dedicated to creating a calm, engaging environment and developing pupil’s social and independent skills, we understand the need to know how autism uniquely impacts on the personal development of each student.

Each student’s curriculum and care plan is individually designed to reflect their abilities and personal development needs.

“My child is happy, safe and well cared for. His educational needs are met and staff are willing to support him and encourage him to work to the best of his ability” (Parent 2010)

Life Skills Department

Promoting independence through learning is particularly evident at Portfield’s Life Skills service for older students in Christchurch.

Welcoming up to 16 young people aged 15 to 19, the centre has an emphasis on teaching life skills to enable pupils to support themselves in their own living environments.

A range of practical social skills lessons aims to ensure that pupils develop the ability to integrate within society while supporting themselves in as many ways as possible. Life Skills also work closely with a number of local businesses to provide valuable experiences in real-life workplaces.

"Lifeskills has given my son the best grounding possible for the future ahead"   (Parent 2011)
